Can't connect UPDATE: ANet's response to server issues
After installing the recent windows xp updates which came today and rebooting my computer, I just get this error when trying to log in. Yes, I have read the sticky and support, but the problem is that I am not using the router, and disabling my firewall (Panda 2007) didn't allow me to log in either. Any other internet application such as other games, browser and messenger are working just as fine as usual.
I tried system restore to previous day which probably uninstalled the updates (can't see them fron control panel at least) but the problem still persists. It is rather nasty, seeing the guru tournament is on its way and I should participate in.
So, any ideas for fixing this issue? Thanks in advance!

So if your traffic is coming in via that network, you might experience the problems mentioned,
They are working on it as I type, I keep you informed.
I apologize for the inconvenience.

This issue has been resolved thankfully. This only affected European servers. If any network connectivity issues persist, please let us know. Otherwise, there should be no more problems. I'll sticky this for the time being just to make sure everyone knows Anet has resolved this.
7/14 Update: Unless it's an issue related to the European servers, go ahead and post a new thread. The solution to your problem may be a different one. Please read through the other threads about connectivity issues as well.
Thanks!

if you are using nod 32 antivirus syste,, you have to disable the HTTP scaning support. That way, you will make the tcp port 80 available
there is a thread about this on NCsoft

Seeing that all of my friends have the same issue, this must be server side problem. Hope they will fix it soon.

I have same problem. I tried Winsock Reset, disabling firewall etc. but nothing seems to work. Also tried running the "test my computer" but it showed no errors.
So I think it's probably server wide problem.

Edit: Is there a way to uninstall the latest software update from Windows?

I'm in Denmark.
So any American people getting this? or just Europeans?
Edit: to the person above.
I haven't updated my windows in the last week, so I really doubt that has anything to do with it.

I don't think so, it got me suspecting at first but now as I see others also have exactly the same problem. I just rebooted my computer (thus logging out from GW) and after that, could not get back.

I installed the update earlier, and managed to play for an hour or two before I lagged out and GW started giving me errors.
I can log in though, and load the map my character is on, but disconnect whenever I try to zone.

Updates have nothing to do with this imo since I havn't updated in god knows how long and I still get an Code=005. It's clearly server-side so all we can do is wait.

Guess it's not region-buond. I'm in Southern Europe, same problem. They're probably experiencing some routing issues, nothing to be done but wait.
